How to Post Nano Banana Images to TikTok Without the AI Label

Google's Nano Banana images carry SynthID and C2PA metadata — but TikTok's 'AI-generated' label reads the metadata, not SynthID. Here's why a native re-encode clears the label on iPhone, and what SynthID actually is.

Nano Banana stills look fantastic in a TikTok photo post or carousel — and TikTok’s photo mode is underrated for AI art. The friction: TikTok stamps these posts “AI-generated” on upload. With Nano Banana specifically, it pays to know what TikTok is reacting to, because Google marks its images in two layers and only one of them matters here.

Two signals, only one triggers the label

A Nano Banana image leaves Google carrying:

  • SynthID — an invisible watermark baked into the pixels, engineered to survive compression, resizing and re-encoding. It’s Google’s robust provenance mark.
  • C2PA metadata — the standard “made with AI” credential written into the file’s metadata.

Here’s the part that decides everything: TikTok’s “AI-generated” label is applied from the C2PA metadata, not from SynthID. TikTok reads the credential on upload — the same way it flags any other tool’s output — and SynthID isn’t what flips the tag. TikTok scans photo posts, not just videos

Worth repeating because it surprises people: TikTok runs detection on photo-mode posts and carousels too. A Nano Banana still gets checked on the way in, exactly like a video would. So switching from video to a photo post doesn’t dodge the label — the metadata travels with the image.

Why cleaning works

A native re-encode rebuilds the image through Apple’s CoreImage pipeline, and the C2PA credential and metadata don’t make it into the new file. Remove the signal TikTok reads, and the “AI-generated” label has nothing to apply from — which is why, in practice, cleaned Nano Banana stills post without the tag.

The honest caveat, same as always: the re-encode clears the metadata that drives the label. It does not strip SynthID — that’s pixel-level and meant to persist, and Google’s tools could still detect it. But TikTok’s label keys off the metadata, so clearing the metadata is what removes the tag you see. No overclaiming here.

  2. Save it to your iPhone camera roll.
