How to Remove the "AI Creator" Label from Your Instagram Profile

For most accounts this is the easy one: the AI creator badge is a setting, you switch it off the same way it was switched on, and it’s gone immediately.

For some accounts there is no toggle at all. If you have already opened Edit profile and found nothing, you are in the second case, and most guides on this query have nothing for you. Skip to when there is no toggle.

The steps

1. Open Instagram and go to your profile.
2. Tap Edit profile.
3. Find the AI creator designation in the list.
4. Toggle it off.
5. Save if the app asks you to.

Back out to your profile and the badge is gone. If it’s still showing, force-quit the app and reopen it. The profile view caches, and the change sometimes needs a refresh to appear on your own screen.

It’s not in your bio, so don’t waste time editing that

Worth saying early, because it sends a lot of people down a dead end.

The label displays next to your bio, which makes it look like bio text. It isn’t. It’s a separate profile attribute rendered by Instagram, and it reads “This profile posts content that was generated or modified with AI.” You didn’t type it, so you can’t delete it by editing your bio.

Clearing your bio, rewriting it, or removing every mention of AI from it will change nothing. The badge is not bio content, so bio edits cannot reach it.

While it’s on, it shows in more places than the profile: under your username on posts and Reels, and in surfaces like Explore. That’s often how people notice it in the first place: not on their own profile, but on a post where they didn’t expect it.

Why it’s on your profile

Instagram introduced the AI creator designation on 4 May 2026, for creators whose output regularly involves AI tools. The intent is context for viewers: it signals what kind of account they’ve landed on before they judge the content.

It was introduced as opt-in, and for most accounts that is still how it behaves. If you don’t remember switching it on, the usual explanations are:

• It was offered during an onboarding or feature-announcement prompt, framed as a suggestion, and accepted with a tap.
• Someone else with access to the account enabled it: a manager, an editor, or an agency.
• It was turned on deliberately a while ago and forgotten.

In all three, the toggle is there and switching it off ends it.

But there is a fourth case, and it is the one that sends people in circles: the toggle is missing entirely.

When there is no toggle

If Edit profile shows no AI creator control and the badge is still on your profile, it is not hiding somewhere. It is reported to come from Meta’s classification of the account rather than from a switch you enabled, and there is no self-serve control to turn that off.

What drives the classification, per those reports: an account that consistently publishes content which triggers the per-post AI label reinforces it over time. The badge is downstream of your posts.

Worth being straight about the sourcing. Meta has not published a description of this behaviour, so what follows is drawn from consistent creator reports rather than documentation. The practical shape of it is nonetheless clear: no toggle means no direct removal, and the only lever is the input.

So the lever is the per-post labels. If your uploads stop carrying the provenance data that triggers them, you stop feeding the classification. That is slower than a switch and there is no guaranteed timeline, but it is the only route that acts on the actual cause. What does not work in this case: editing your bio, force-quitting the app, re-logging in, or switching to a professional account and back. None of them touch a classification.

What it will not do

Turning off the badge will not remove AI labels from your individual posts. This is the single most common disappointment with this fix, and it’s worth being precise about why.

The per-post AI info tag (formerly “Made with AI”) is a completely different system. It’s applied automatically at upload, based on C2PA Content Credentials and metadata inside the file you posted. Instagram evaluated that file, found a provenance record, and tagged that post.

A profile setting has no bearing on it. Turning the badge off doesn’t cause anything to be re-evaluated. The posts keep their tags because the files that produced them are unchanged.

Should you leave it on?

Worth a moment’s thought before you switch it off.

The badge is a transparency signal. For an account that openly makes AI art, it sets expectations up front and heads off the “is this real?” comments. Some audiences respond well to that clarity, and disclosure is increasingly what platforms reward.

Where it works against you is when it overstates your process. If AI is one step in a workflow that’s mostly your own photography, direction and editing, a badge saying the account regularly uses AI creation tools flattens that into something it isn’t. That’s a fair reason to turn it off.

It’s your call, and it’s reversible either way.

If your posts are the problem

For per-post labels, the fix is at the file level: rebuild the file so the embedded credential isn’t carried into it, then upload the clean copy.
